How to Excavate the Foundation Trench for Indoor Artificial Turf Pitches

How to Lay and Compact Gravel

Indoor artificial turf pitches, covered with PVC, are built to be highly durable and are unaffected by heavy rain and snow in winter, or by sunlight in summer. They can be used comfortably in all seasons as they do not let cold or hot air penetrate. During the construction process, the concrete for the artificial turf pitch is laid first. For this, a foundation trench is excavated in the existing area, and the soil removed during excavation is transported away. The excavation should be done such that the 30 cm part of the foundation concrete remains above ground. Stirrups are placed every 20 cm using 8 mm construction iron. Then, four beams using 12 mm diameter construction iron are used to connect the corners. Anchor sockets are placed inside the foundation formwork, measuring 25 cm and 60 cm, and the prepared formwork is made ready for reinforced concrete using vibration. After the foundation concrete is completed during the construction of the indoor artificial turf pitch, the 20 cm part remaining above the foundation is filled with gravel. It is then spread on the surface of the sports field and compacted using a press.

Installing Vertical Pipes and Netting

Pipes of 76 mm diameter and 3 mm thickness are placed inside the foundation formwork, with the 7 mm section facing upwards. The vertical pipes are connected to each other by welding at the bottom, middle, and top sections. Four lighting structures are placed along the long sides of the pitch. After a main entrance door is added to the pitch, goalposts and goal nets are also installed appropriately for the pitch. Once the structure is complete, it is painted with industrial green paint. During the construction of the indoor artificial turf pitch, galvanized steel ropes are stretched in four rows at the back and sides of the goal to cover the perimeter with wire mesh. Then, steel ropes are stretched across the entire pitch to prevent the ball from going out of bounds. The sides and back of the goal are covered with double-layered PVC-coated galvanized fencing. Cabling and grounding are performed to operate the lighting systems, which are installed at a considerable height. A total of 16 Olympic-style floodlights, 8 on the right and 8 on the left, each with a power of 400 watts, are connected and mounted.
